The Aircraft Accident Investigation Department (AAID) has published its final report into the serious incident involving a Singapore-registered Boeing 747-412F, registration 9V-SFO, which occurred at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on 14 April 2023. The aircraft, operated by Singapore Airlines Cargo, was conducting a scheduled freight flight when the crew rejected takeoff at high speed after hearing a loud bang during the take-off roll. The aircraft decelerated on the runway and came to a stop with multiple main landing gear tyres deflated as a result of the high-energy rejected takeoff. There were no injuries to the crew, but the aircraft sustained damage, and the runway was temporarily closed, causing significant operational disruption at the airport.

The AAID investigation examined flight data recorder information, cockpit voice recorder data, aircraft performance parameters, runway condition, and engine performance. The report details the sequence of events leading to the rejected takeoff, the crew’s decision-making process, and the mechanical factors associated with the loud bang that prompted the aborted takeoff.
