Accident Involving a Cessna Citation 560 XLS aircraft, Registration 5Y-FDM, in Mwihoko, Kiambu County.
The Aircraft Accident Investigations Department (AAID) – Kenya has received notification of an accident involving a Citation 560 XLS aircraft, registration 5Y-FDM. The accident occurred this afternoon near Mwihoko Secondary School, in Kiambu County.
The aircraft, operated by AMREF Flying Doctors, was en route from Wilson Airport to Hargeisa, Somaliland, when the accident occurred at approximately 1417hrs local time.
Preliminary information confirms that four AMREF personnel (two crew members and two medical staff) were on board the aircraft and all sustained fatal injuries. Additionally, two civilians on the ground also lost their lives as a result of the accident.
In accordance with the provisions of ICAO Annex 13, AAID-Kenya has activated its emergency response protocols and deployed an investigation team to the site to initiate on-site investigations, including the collection of relevant data and evidence.
