The Aircraft Accident Investigation Team convened a meeting at the EAC CASSOA Center for Aviation Medicine to carry out its mandate in accordance with the Terms of Reference outlined in the Gazette Notice No. 6257

The newly formed aircraft accident investigation team convened on 4 June 2025, at the Civil Aviation Safety and Security Oversight Agency (CASSOA) Centre for Aviation Medicine in Nairobi. The team, established through Gazette Notice No. 6257 by the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, Hon. Davis Chirchir, is tasked to review aircraft accidents in the Federal Republic of Somalia and South Sudan over the past five years. The Gazette Notice establishing the team, issued earlier this year, underscored the Kenyan government’s commitment to supporting regional air safety and fulfilling its international obligations under ICAO Annex 13 on aircraft accident and incident investigation.

The meeting marked a critical step in what is expected to be a wide-reaching and technically complex series of activities that will shed more light on the Aircraft accidents in the two States for the period. This initiative reflects Kenya’s proactive and vital commitment to improving aviation safety across the region. Upon completion of the process, the team is expected to submit a comprehensive report detailing its findings and recommendations to support the enhancement of aviation safety in Kenya.
