The Aircraft Accident Investigation Team held a progress meeting at the CASSOA Centre for Aviation Medicine in Nairobi.

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Team held a progress meeting at the CASSOA Centre for Aviation Medicine in Nairobi. In attendance was Mr. Liban Shire, Director of the Somali Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB).

The team, constituted through Gazette Notice No. 6257 by the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, is mandated to review aircraft accidents that have occurred in the Federal Republic of Somalia and the Republic of South Sudan over the past five years.

The meeting included an interactive session with Mr. Shire, during which detailed discussions were held on recent incidents and accidents involving Kenyan-registered aircraft in Somalia. These discussions explored the specific circumstances surrounding each occurrence and provided valuable insights to support and enhance the team’s ongoing review efforts.

Additionally, the session featured a proposal to establish a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Somali AAIB and the Kenyan Aircraft Accident Investigation Department (AAID). The proposed MoU seeks to foster enhanced coordination and seamless collaboration in the investigation of future aviation incidents and accidents, with the overarching goal of strengthening aviation safety in the region.
