Serious Incident Involving an Embraer EMB-120RT, Aircraft Registration 5Y-EBB at Mandera Airport

On Friday, 24 April 2026, at approximately 9:00 AM local time, an accident occurred at Mandera Airport involving an Embraer EMB-120RT aircraft, registration 5Y-EBB.

The aircraft had arrived from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and, during the landing roll, overshot the runway, coming to rest in bushes and thickets beyond the runway end.

There were 36 persons on board, all of whom evacuated the aircraft safely without sustaining any injuries. However, the aircraft sustained significant damage, particularly to the engines and the nose section.

In accordance with the provisions of Annex 13 to the Convention on International Civil Aviation (ICAO), investigators from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Department (AAID) were deployed to the site to initiate a comprehensive on-site investigation into the circumstances surrounding the occurrence.
